FAQ

  1. What is the name of my default page for my Windows-based shared hosting solution?

For windows hosting solutions your default pages should be named either default.htm or default.asp. If you require other default pages you should contact us to request they be added.
  2. What is the name of my default page for my Linux-based shared hosting solution?

For Linux based hosting solutions your default pages are always named index.html
  3. Why can't I use certain file types?

Certain file type extensions are not allowed in web sites. these are:
    1. .EXE - executable files
    2. .BAT
    3. .COM
    4. .SCR
    5. .PIF
  4. I want to use scripting languages, can I?

On windows hosting solutions you can use both Perl and ASP/ASP.NET
On linux hosting solutions you can use both Perl and PHP
  5. Can I have streaming media?

Media files may be included as embedded files or aspects of a page however your hosting solution is not specifically a streaming media server. If your needs are such that you will need intensive media streaming you should contact us to have a quote provided for a custom media streaming server dedicated for you.
  6. Do I have Microsoft Frontpage extensions and access to my site?

Frontpage extensions (supporting MS  Frontpage 2000,XP and 2003) are NOT installed by default on your windows hosting solution or Linux hosting solution and should be requested specifically. There is no additional charge but we prefer not to clog servers with elements that will not be used.
  7. Why is my FTP session so slow?

When accessing your site using FTP you should always ensure that "Passive Mode" is NOT used. Passive mode will result in a substantial slowdown of your transfers and access due to the needed security layers that have been added over the past decode in response to the changing nature of the Internet. Many firewalls have great difficulty understanding and allowing passive transfers correctly as often they appear to be no different than virus or security attack signatures.
  8. I can't send mail - your server keeps rejecting my session

In order to SEND email from your account your email program must be set to send authentication information as well. In Outlook under tools > accounts, highlight the account and click on properties. On the server tab make sure the "My server requires authentication" is checked.
  9. My email program keeps asking me for my password - even though I KNOW I am typing in the right one!

Norton Antivirus does, and will, often interrupt normal email send/receive process with Outlook. Often after an update to the virus definitions or program, the Antivirus protection will become out of synch with Outlook and your mail program will seem to continually ask for your password. The way to resolve this is simply to restart your computer. This will re-synchronize Norton Anti-virus to your Outlook/Outlook Express program.
  10. My web mail session keeps expiring after only a page or so!

When accessing your mail using the web mail for windows hosting solutions (Worldclient) you must permit cookies or your session cannot be authenticated correctly. Also, to help ensure sniffing of your mail sessions is prevented, the IP of your session is constantly checked and if changed, your session will expire. So if you and someone else are accessing the same account using world client from two separate locations, both of you will experience continual session expirations. One should discontinue the session until the first is finished.
